Blotato Launches DM Automations for Instagram and Facebook

Blotato DM automation flow connecting an AI agent to Instagram and Facebook comment and direct message triggers.

Blotato's DM automations send a keyword-triggered Instagram or Facebook message from the same API key that publishes the post.

Eight new social media API endpoints let an AI agent build and run Instagram and Facebook keyword-to-DM flows on the same key that publishes the posts.

Keyword-to-DM flows are not new. Building them from your AI agent, on the same key that published the post, is. That used to be a second vendor, a second approval, and a second bill.”

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, UNITED STATES, August 7, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Blotato has launched DM automations for Instagram and Facebook. Keyword-to-DM flows are not new. Building them from your agent, on the same key that published the post, is.

A DM automation has three parts. A trigger, which is either a comment on a post or a direct message to the account. Optional keywords, which filter which comments and messages get a reply, matched whole-word and case-insensitively. And the message that goes out, up to 640 characters with up to three link buttons. A comment trigger answers with a private reply to the comment. A message trigger answers with a standard DM.

Automations can be built in the Blotato web app, or by an agent. Eight API endpoints cover creating, listing, updating, and deleting automations, plus their runs, logs, and analytics. Seven are exposed as tools on Blotato's Model Context Protocol server, which now carries 35 tools in total. Blotato documents setup for fifteen AI agents, so a builder can connect their AI agent to Blotato, describe the flow in a sentence, and let the agent create and activate it.

The reporting is built for that same agent. Each automation returns all-time totals for triggered, completed, and failed, and a failed run carries a structured error with a code and a message, so an agent can read why a send did not land rather than handing a person a dashboard to go check. Runs stay open until a message resolves, so completed and failed can briefly trail the triggered count.

The limits are set by Meta rather than by Blotato. A private reply to a comment is allowed once per comment within 7 days, and a direct message must be sent within 24 hours of a contact's last message. An automation only answers people who commented or messaged first, so it cannot be used for cold outreach. Instagram and Facebook are the supported platforms, while publishing continues to cover all nine. Accounts connected before comments and messaging arrived in July need to be reconnected before automations will run on them.

Automations are included on every paid plan, starting at $29 per month on the Blotato pricing page, and API access begins with a paid plan rather than the trial. Plans are metered by active contacts per month rather than by messages sent, at 1,000 on Starter, 6,000 on Creator, and 15,000 on Agency. A contact counts once in a month no matter how many times an automation reaches them.

Blotato has published the endpoint reference and setup steps for Instagram DM automation.
