About the Author
Louis Neal Irwin is a neurobiologist, astrobiologist, playwright, and accomplished author of more than ninety scientific publications, including five books covering neuroscience, astrobiology, and evolution. He earned his B.A. in Chemistry from Texas Tech University and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Physiology from the University of Kansas.
Throughout his distinguished academic career, Irwin has served on the staffs of the Shriver Center and the Neurosciences Research Program at MIT and held faculty positions at Columbia College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Simmons University in Boston, and the University of Texas at El Paso, where he served as Chair of Biology and was appointed an endowed professor of neuroscience.
Recognized as a National Science Foundation Fellow and recipient of first prize in the international science writing competition sponsored by Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, Irwin continues to combine scientific expertise with compelling storytelling. Now based in Denver, he writes plays and books that make complex scientific ideas engaging and accessible to readers from all backgrounds.
