Obyte Introduces Coop: A Decentralized Community System to Reward Meaningful Contributions

Vote for contributors who help Obyte grow, receive votes for your own contributions, and earn daily emissions of COOP tokens in proportion to votes received

VADUZ, LIECHTENSTEIN, August 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Obyte is glad to announce the launch of Coop, a decentralized cooperative platform designed to recognize and reward the people who really help expand and strengthen the Obyte ecosystem. Built around transparency and community participation, Coop allows members to earn rewards based on the value of their contributions, as determined by other participants rather than by a central authority.

Unlike traditional incentive programs managed by organizations or committees, Coop operates entirely through an Autonomous Agent (AA) on the Obyte Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG). This decentralized, code-driven system automatically manages rewards, voting, deposits, and withdrawals according to predefined rules that cannot be altered or overridden by any individual, including the Obyte development team. The source code is publicly available on GitHub, allowing anyone to verify how the system works.

Participation begins by locking a certain amount of either COOP tokens or GBYTE (Obyte’s native coin) for a minimum of one year. These locked funds determine voting power and influence part of the user's future rewards, while encouraging long-term commitment to the community. Members also connect their Obyte address with their Telegram and/or Discord identity, making it easier for others to recognize and evaluate their contributions across community channels.

Rewarding Every Kind of Contribution

Coop recognizes that healthy communities grow through various forms of participation. The system rewards three broad categories of contribution: technical or social work, financial support, and curation.

Work contributions include activities such as software development, educational content, articles, videos, translations, or community outreach. Financial contributors strengthen the ecosystem by locking COOP or GBYTE within the protocol. Curation is also rewarded, acknowledging members who actively identify valuable work, encourage participation, and help maintain productive discussions.

Every day, the protocol mints new COOP tokens and distributes them automatically among locked accounts. Half of the daily emission is allocated according to community votes, rewarding members whose work receives recognition. The other half considers both votes and locked balances, ensuring that financial supporters also receive incentives. This balanced approach allows contributors with modest deposits to earn meaningful rewards while recognizing those who commit significant resources to the project.

COOP itself follows a community-first distribution model. The token launched without presales, private allocations, or insider distributions. Every COOP token enters circulation exclusively as a reward for participation, with most newly created tokens remaining locked for one year before becoming transferable.

Community Governance and Referral Incentives

Beyond rewards, Coop gives participants an active role in shaping the protocol. Members can vote on governance proposals that modify configurable system parameters, including reward distribution settings. Voting power is calculated using the square root of each participant's locked balance, a quadratic weighting model designed to reduce the influence of very large holders while preserving incentives for long-term commitment.

Any eligible member may submit governance proposals. Once submitted, proposals become available for community review and voting, allowing the system to evolve through decentralized consensus rather than centralized management.

Coop also includes a referral program that encourages community growth. Existing members can invite newcomers using personalized referral links. When a new participant joins and makes a qualifying deposit, both parties receive locked COOP rewards, while referrers may also earn additional liquid COOP based on future deposits made by the invited member.

With Coop, Obyte expands its community initiatives by creating a transparent and decentralized framework where participation, collaboration, and long-term commitment are directly rewarded. By placing recognition and decision-making in the hands of the community itself, the project aims to encourage more people to contribute, support one another, and help build the future of the Obyte ecosystem together.
Coop is already available at coop.obyte.org.
